Now

This painting counts as part of the owl (shape) theme. It's in there, yo. Just like the Prego commercials used to say, sans the yo. :-)

Owl Girl

(Well... Owl Girl/ Clock Girl) Since I am both afraid and intrigued by owls, I am going to experiment with drawing them. They have (what I think to be) one of the creepiest silhouettes... Anyway... let the experiments begin!

Productive Weekends...

Productive weekends are hopefully going to become more and more common place for me. I am getting paintings and other work together to sell online. Summer is almost here and that will free up my weekdays too. I really hope to be working a lot on art and acting this summer.

My garden is coming along nicely this year. Those infamous pumpkin plants are still growing. Hopefully I won't regret not pulling them up.

Yesterday, I gave my little Tigerlily a bath and tried to cut her hair too... In the process I accidently cut a little chunk of her skin off. I feel SO bad about it... She is such a little trouper. I am putting ointment on it. Poor little baby bear...

She is so... silly...

I am also doing some paintings and illustrations to update my Etsy and Cafepress shops. I'd love thought and suggestions.

Hope you are all having a nice weekend too! - Misty

Designing Watches

For SOME reason I've been thinking about watches lately... So, here is a lesson example designed to help students think of the process and concepts involved in watch/product design. For this one in particular, students were supposed to design a watch based on a famous painting or artist.

Hope everyone is having a nice week.

Everything is gonna be just fine

This was a big weekend for me. It was a very quiet, relaxed weekend, but it was still very big. For the first time in a long time, I feel truly good about myself, and proud of myself. I am really happy with the wonderful things in my life, and the wonderful people. Here's part of a painting I experimented with using textured paper and a cut-out self-portrait. It needs some work, but it's coming along.

(a few Anais Nin quotes, enjoy...)

"Each contact with a human being is so rare, so precious, one should preserve it." ( I plan to)

"Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country." ( I also plan to)

"I will not be just a tourist in the world of images, just watching images passing by which I cannot live in, make love to, possess as permanent sources of joy and ecstasy."

Hope everyone has a great week!

time to pretend

I have two birthdays on my mind this week. My mom would have turned 60 this Saturday. I miss her a lot lately. I miss her advice. Even if it wasn't something I wanted to hear, I knew she had my best interest at heart and I knew she was often right. The other person with a birthday coming up seems just as absent. I just don't have it in me to be something I'm not, when it comes to things that are important to me. So, I'm gonna' try and pretend everything is fine and send birthday wishes whether they are received well or not...

I feel

strong and weak at the same time today. I found this poem and it sort of says what I mean.

Somewhere I have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which I cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look easily will unclose me
though I have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring
opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously)her first rose

or if your wish be to close me, I and
my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world
equals
the power of your intense fragility: whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(I do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens; only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

"Somewhere I have never travelled, gladly beyond"

Graphite Transfers

We're doing some graphite transfers in Third Grade right now.

P.S. - I am going to see Morrissey on Sunday... hee-hee...
