The cutest thing

If you know me, you probably know that although I LOVE animals of all kinds, there are a few types of birds that are on my "list", if you know what I mean. Well, house wrens are not on that list. I adore them. They are so... funny, little, and cute, and I love their song. Well, I had a little wren pick my backyard for nesting this past spring. In fact, the perfect place for her nest was decidedly my porch light fixture. I wanted a little wren in my backyard so bad, that I decided I could do without it for while. I haven't seen the wren in a while, but it's been so hot that I haven't looked for it that much. I decided to take a peek this morning, and I found the most adorable little nest full of eggs. I'm thinking they were probably abandoned long ago, but I carefully put it back up, just in case. Hee-hee... look at all of the kitty and Tiger hairs in the nest.

Enjoy! Happy Fourth of July Weekend Everyone!!! :-)

New flickr Set

I finally figured out a way to get the photos off of my cell phone that have been trapped ever since my sweet, but sometimes naughty Tiger chewed the cable for it. I bought this cool little USB port for my microsd chip. So, yay! I am setting up a new set on Flickr just for photos. I kind of forgot how many great memories had been saved on this little phone over the past year. Gotta love technology. :-)

Summer in my garden

It's so hot outside. I guess it is this hot every summer in Austin, but somehow it just feels hotter right now. I am beginning to get into a nice habit of making myself breakfast and then spending some quiet time in my garden either watering or weeding, or just sitting. This morning there was a gulf fritillary butterfly flittering around. I sat outside eating my cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese. mmm... One thing I am realizing right now is that what I focus on is really what I feel and see. I am feeling very peaceful at the moment. I miss terribly some people from my life, but I know I will see them again. I can't help but laugh, and smile when I think about them. Here are some pictures of my little pumpkin nursery and a bit of my newly emptied and cleaned up patio. Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer. I want it to rain so that there is water in the rivers for rafting...

Reminiscing

My silly grandmother.  :-)

I've been scanning dozens and dozens of photos of my grandmother and family from 90 plus years ago to today for my grandmother's upcoming 90th birthday celebration. We're planning on making it a big event. Anyway, I am in charge of scanning and cleaning up images to show during the party. It has been a lot of fun seeing all of these photos scanned. Close up, all of the details pop out, and suddenly they are no longer photos, they are images of lives lived. I can almost hear the talking and laughter, smell the food, and even feel the heat (there wasn't any a/c in some of them, and it's Texas). I have even found many photos of my family that I hadn't ever seen before. I'm so lucky to have a grandmother and uncles that photographed our lives so now we have such a rich record.
Here's one of me with my mom. She looks so pretty.

Here's one of me and my sister. I'm very lucky to have such a cool sister too.

Ok Then...

One of my first grade students made this necklace for me, then demanded that I PUT IT ON! ... hahaha... so I did. :-P
