a couple more silly prints and El Catrin

I made a couple more silly prints carving with the easy cut material. These were examples for my class. One image on each side of the linoleum-like material. I made hearts on one side, and a stamp of my little doll on the other.

One of my friends is having a themed party coming up, so I have to find all the parts to dress up as El Catrin. Let's see... I've always wanted a monocle, I'll need a bowtie, I have a costume cigarette holder, Need some white gloves, oh... any excuse to get a moustache, etc... (hahahaha)

Working Through

This week I've done my best to complete the art challenge. I've done some drawings/sketches and paintings somewhat inspired by the artists I listed in my earlier post. I wasn't really happy with how they turned out, but whatever... I've also been working hard to paint only abstract paintings in an effort to avoid angering/frustrating others. :-/ As you can see... I 've been doing A LOT of abstract painting... so go easy on me. Actually, some of the pieces I ended up with seem to be inspired by several artists at once. They've all been kind of swirling around in my head this week. (PS - I'm kind of curious what y'all think about them) I'm a little behind. I have to do a Lautrec, tonight, and a Boticelli and Whistler tomorrow. :-) Yay, three day weekend!

These textured abstract paintings are inspired by Chagall.

This one was supposed to be inspired by Munch.

My New Tray

Love my new tray that my friend Heather painted for me. I can add it to my collection of all the wonderful pieces that she's given me. Yay! She painted the center with chalkboard paint. I guess I can use it in my classroom and write something like "is cool" on it. Hahaha

Let's Talk About Spaceships...

Can't get this song or "Blah, Blah, Blah" by Say Hi To Your Mom out of my head today.

The first one reminds me of wanting to talk to someone and loving being around them, but avoiding the 'elephant in the room' at all costs.

The second one makes me think of Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (haha) :-P

Hope everyone stays warm tonight, it's gonna be cold.

PS - I've been doing a little printmaking... It's strange how seeing the printed image of your own face looks more real than the photo. I guess it's because I see myself more in reverse than the way others see me.

Also, one of the artists that I follow, is having an art challenge at the moment. I think I am going to do it to just for fun. Would any of my other creatively inclined friends be interested in doing it too, and then getting together for a mini critique with mandatory refreshments? ;-) This is her current challenge: This next week's theme is to: become a different artist each day or be inspired by a different artist each day.

Here are my artists:
Kahlo
Lautrec
Munch
Whistler
Botticelli
Vermeer
Chagall

Last Day of my Break

Hmmm... Tiger has been pouting a little lately. She seems to be a little sad.
My "new kitchen" arrangement.
Sneak Peek Where's he going?

Hopefully, Holly won't see this update until after I give Vincent to her.
Oh, I have to say I've had quite an enlightening holiday break. This morning I WAS trying to watch my dvd of Peter Pan , but I guess I've worn it out... cause it won't play anymore. Boo! :-( I am watching some episodes of Firefly instead. I am getting my little dolly finished and doing it all by hand. I don't know what the reaction to it will be, but I did a little drawing of it, and could not get it out of my head, so I have to see it through. I'm also getting my New Year's Resolutions/Goals down.

playing, painting, drawing, cleaning = HAPPY, so.... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Oh, I'm being such a girl this morning. Wondering what to wear for a New Year's celebration. I can't wait to get 2010 started. I just know it's going to be great. I am working on my list of resolutions for health, wealth and happiness. Happy New Year To All!

Tonight, there is going to be a Blue Moon, the second full moon of the month. The other one this month was on the night of my birthday. Cool! I'm expecting some magic tonight.

2010 part two

I've decided that, since 2009 wasn't ALL bad, I'm going to give the year a more thoughtful sendoff. I have a lot of bittersweet memories, along with the not so great ones. I am trying my hand at scrapbooking for the first time. Guess I'll see how it goes, it has to be better than putting stuff in boxes. I'll just enjoy the moment and the last few hours of 2009.

Ok, I just found my 2008/2009 school year calendar, and all I can say is... OUCH, and this IS a good project for me. It's good to remember everything in a clear realistic way. whew!
