Butterflies... of a different kind

Tomorrow I will be performing in an original one act play at The City Theatre. We've worked hard on it, and it is pretty cute. It is for the theater's 'Summer Acts' program where they allow small theater companies space to perform new and original work. It is pretty cool to be playing a character that no one has ever played before, and being able to make it my own. :-) Anyway, the butterflies that I speak of are nervous ones, but in a good way. Whereas your average production gets many rehearsals in their performance space, our group was allowed one, that's right, one 2 hour TECH REHEARSAL. We barely got through all of our cues, no way was there time to also do a complete run-through in the space. So... over the past few months we have been rehearsing in churches and community centers in north Austin and Leander. Our opening night will literally be our first run through at the theater. Another challenge that has come with being a part of this production, for me anyway, is the performance location itself. When I agreed to take the part, I assumed that we would be performing in Leander or Round Rock. It wasn't until the second rehearsal that I found out we would be performing at City Theatre. After a particularly painful/embarrassing evening last fall, I didn't want to go back there anytime soon, maybe ever, so... I took this as a sign that it was time to create new memories in that space and move forward, so that's what I'm doing. I've said it before... I think I must be addicted to that 'What the hell am I about to do' feeling. I love a challenge and man, this one has not disappointed. I was even cast as my character due to my willingness to try something I have never done before. It will no doubt be a lot of fun, but those little butterflies are fluttering around even so. If anyone is in the area, it should be a lot of fun, so try to make it out for one of our shows!

Butterflies...

I love butterflies. Every spring, I look forward to seeing the first few that flutter through my tiny strip of a garden. Butterflies symbolize so many things. To me they symbolize feeling carefree, and full of joy. They represent the nervous excitement of love. They also represent the beauty of gracefully accepting the changes that comes with fully living your life, the metamorphoses (yes, I looked it up) that we all go through. I hope you all enjoy my little creations. They make great little gifts and reminders of happiness. I made them while watching 'Bright Star.'

Here are a few pics of the ones I just listed today in my Etsy shop:
