A new painting in progress

This is an acrylic and mixed media piece on a 24" x 24" gallery canvas. I'm having a lot of fun experimenting with new materials, and textures. This one should be completed tomorrow. :-)

So much on my mind...

Since my knee has been getting better and better, I've gotten back into the habit of loading myself up with lots to do. I am painting, drawing, and rehabilitating my knee by doing some swimming. I've also decided to put my energies back into acting. For a long time now, I've avoided it, trying to protect myself. Now... I realize that I am only hurting myself by avoiding something that I love just as much as the drawing and painting that I do. I am going to start classes again this weekend, and I am getting headshots done this coming week. (it's about time) I think I've been doing great, but getting myself in the mindset of what I am about to do has opened up a can of worms in my brain. So... here's to getting "there" sooner, than later; and here's hoping that "there" is going to be a wonderful place.

Ah... spring!

Today was a gorgeous day. This morning, I had breakfast at my favorite little spot with my friend Jenny, and then went to the spring carnival at school I work at; before having to running several errands. My little garden is coming right along. I've added a chocolate daisy, some swiss chard, two tomatoes, two peppers, a basil, and several different little flowers. My antique 'Belinda's Dream rose will be blooming in just a week or so! I'm hoping to spend the rest of the weekend painting. Yay, spring! :-D

Art Workshop

Here are a couple of images of Kathryn Kelley's work from the Women and Their Work's show that opened March 6th. As an art teacher, I was able to attend a free morning workshop with her; where she openly discussed her process and challenges in creating the work. I feel very lucky that the school district I work for offers these opportunities to meet working artists. Kathryn puts so much of herself into her pieces; I could hear it in her descriptions and see it for myself in her work. I, of course, cried a little... I'm such a sucker for witnessing the power, drive and passion that it takes for artists to create. God help me when I get to Europe and see all of the artwork. I'm gonna need a backpack full of tissues. hahaha

The Winner and This Week's Experiment

**Thanks for the comments you two. :-P
Melissa.... You ARE - the winner... hahaha..., but RB - I will send you an original tiny painting similar to the one you commented on too.
Email me your addresses and I will mail them to you. :-)

Here is an image of one of my painting experiments the past couple of days. I have another 24 x 24 inch one, but it doesn't exactly fit on the scanner. This week I am experimenting with texture and color, using a glitter, specialty yarn and ribbon to paint over. (the two gray streaks in the center are actually a glare from the scanner light. :-/)

Here are a couple of tiles I painted recently as well.

Cheers, and whew I'm definitely feeling my first day back from Spring Break! (time for a nap)

Since I've been doing so much experimenting with my art lately...

'Pink Blue Orange #7' (5" x5")

'Manic' (ATC - 2.5" x 3.5")

'Quiet' (ATC - 2.5" x 3.5")

I thought it might be fun to have a few contests to find homes for some of my work in order to create room for more. :-) This week, just post a comment on this post and make sure to include the name of the piece you are interested in, and your contact info ( if you are not someone that I know, or know on facebook) and you will be entered for the drawing! Happy St. Patrick's Day, everyone!

*PS- I will announce winners Sunday, so you have until 5pm Saturday to comment.

Today's Painting

Here are a couple of shots of my painting for today. It is also 16 x 20. I've had so much energy with no where to send it because of my knee being 'out of order', and my heart being 'out of order'. I am SO HAPPY to see it finally pouring out of me with all of these paintings. :-) Have a wonderful weekend everyone. I am starting my Spring Break right... NOW! :-D I'll announce the two print winners tomorrow. -Misty

I'm going bigger...

My two latest paintings are 16" x 20". I am working on six more at this size. The images are not as vibrant or clear as my earlier pieces because I photographed these since they will not fit on my scanner. In person, they look awesome (if I do say so myself). :o)

Only two more days till SPRING BREAK!!!

Staying Busy, Staying Happy

I've been working hard to stay busy the past few months. I've been doing a lot painting, reading, and had way more doctor visits than I'd like. I am working on making taking care of myself a priority, which oddly enough was not my top priority for quite a while. I've started acupunture, which I LOVE, and I start physical therapy for my knee today, which I am hoping will have me jumping around without having any surgery. It's hard to dance around your house with a brace on your leg, but don't think I haven't tried. (hmm... maybe that's why my knee isn't getting better... haha) Seriously though, I am having a lot of pain with it, and am frustrated by the fact that it is not improving. I'm a pretty independent person, so the fact that simple getting around has been so hard is kind of scary. I am crossing my fingers that putting in a lot of hard work with my physical therapy will pay off.
One of the things I am really working on is being present and happy in the moment. My sister also reminded me of something yesterday, that I am in a position to do anything that I want to do with my life. I just have to keep reminding myself of that, remind myself of all of the wonderful things I have right now, keep doing what makes me happy, and surround myself with creative, caring and supportive people. I'm rereading my Abraham-Hicks books, my copy of "A New Earth," and I'm about to start reading "Peace Is Every Step" by Thich Nhat Hanh, which has been recommended to me by several people.
My artwork is becoming much more expressive recently than it has been in a while. I've realized that no matter what it is that I am painting, my feelings and intentions come through without even trying for them to. It's allowing me to feel much more spontaneity with my work. I am getting a nice group of work together and plan to talk to a few places about showing it, and maybe sell some originals and prints. I love the little contests that many blogs that I follow have. I am going to try to have one this Friday, if I figure out how the random picker thing works. :-)

Have a great week everyone!
